Christie Pits lightning tree

A man died under this tree in Toronto’s Christie Pits park last month when he was struck by lightning.

I dropped by today to leave a memento at the base of the tree and found others had preceded me.

I sat for a while thinking about how much the victim, 28, enjoyed reading in the park.

I think I’ll return with a book sometime.

R.I.P.

What’s old is in use again

A pendant I made when I worked as a theatre prop builder is on show in Stratford, Ont.

I designed and created the pendant for the 1997 Stratford Festival production of Richard III. Actor Stephen Ouimette wore it as Richard III.

It’s on show in the “One Man in His Time” exhibition in the Discovery Centre across from the Festival Theatre.

The exhibit is comprised of a collection of photos and paraphernalia from Monette’s career in recognition of his 14th and final season as artistic director.

The pendant was reused in a production of Henry IV directed by Monette last year, which is why it is on show in the exhibit. The production I worked on was directed by John Wood.

I am not credited for my work. Theatre artisans generally get no public credit for their work when it is put on show.
